Here are the main local artisanal products: wines, honey and its derivatives, Picodon and other cheeses, etc.

Wines
Craftsmanship in the Drôme is partly characterized by its vineyards. The Drôme department connects French viticulture from the north and the south. The Drôme territory boasts a large number of wine types, ranging from still wines to country wines, sparkling wines, and various Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée. These multiple wine specialties are produced across nearly 18,700 hectares of vineyards covering the Drôme. On average, this amounts to a production of 900,000 hectoliters.
Honey and Derivatives
Regarding local culinary craft specialties in the Drôme, honey and its derivatives must also be mentioned. The history of artisanal honey production dates back to ancient times in the department. For this purpose, you will find numerous apiaries and beekeepers throughout the Drôme. These local artisans offer honey-based products in various mono- or polyfloral variations, creamy or liquid textures, with a full-bodied, sweet, or fruity aromatic note.

Picodon and other Cheeses
On the farm side of craftsmanship in the Drôme, cheese also holds a prominent place among local specialties. The flagship artisanal product in this sector is the famous Picodon, a circular goat cheese with a homogeneous paste and a thin rind. Picodon is produced according to the “Dieulefit method“, which involves drying and aging it for at least 12 days. Benefiting from a controlled designation of origin, this fruity-tasting cheese is one of the stars of the Drôme markets.
